People tend to fear depression but one in six of us will experience it.

Researchers have discovered various ways in which to treat it, but remain unaware of all of the underlying causes.

At BCTC, we have found that CBT is successful in work with recent onset depression but less so with chronic depression (which may have been present for years). For chronic depression therefore we now use CBT in conjunction with other therapies, including meta-cognitive and compassion-focused therapies.

Your own case will be assessed  and a case formulation (which enables us to understand and plan ahead for the difficulties which are individual to you) will be devised collaboratively with you. We do this not only to better understand your own depression ‘blueprint’, but also to guide our treatment and  to ensure that chronic difficulties don’t get in the way of your recovery.
