Diploma Courses

The BCTC Postgraduate Diploma in Cognitive Therapy is a two-year part-time course. In Year One, CT theory and skills are taught one day each week from 9am until 5pm.

Year One assessment consists of a 4,000-word personal essay, in which CT theory and skills are applied to trainee personal development. There is also a simulated client Viva and a psychopathology class test.

BCTC classroomIn Year Two theory and skills training continue one full day each week. An additional day each week is spent in practice placements, counselling three patients. The placements, all of which are usually arranged by BCTC staff, are held in GP surgeries or in psychiatric hospitals throughout Northern and Southern Ireland. Supervision, is by BCTC approved clinical psychologists, who have a specialist interest in Cognitive Therapy or graduates of the BCTC programme.

Year Two assessment consists of six Case Studies (four presented to Supervisors).

Applicants for academic year 2010/11

The course will commence on Monday 6th September 2010. The closing date for applications is Friday 18th June 2010 and interviews will take place on Monday 28th June - Friday 2nd July 2010.

Information Seminar Evenings

Prospective applicants may wish to attend evening seminars. These are held three times each year, from 6:30-8:30 p.m. in the training room at BCTC.

A 90-minute PowerPoint presentation, outlining elements of the BCTC Diploma, Cognitive Therapy and career opportunities in Cognitive Therapy is delivered. Seminars are relaxed and informal and refreshments are available. Staff and present and former BCTC trainees meet with seminarians for informal discussion about the Diploma. A fee of £20 is payable.
